We have some backstage news to pass your way. Michael Cole has reportedly received a recent promotion from WWE.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports that Cole has been promoted to the Vice President of Announcing for WWE. Here is what Johnson wrote about Cole’s new role:
Michael Cole has received a promotion in World Wrestling Entertainment and has gained a new corporate title, Vice President of Announcing, PWInsider.com has confirmed with multiple sources. The promotion officially took place several weeks ago, we are told.
Cole has been with WWE since 1997. Over the course of his run with the company, Cole has worked as a straight announcer and as a heel character (including a Wrestlemania bout against Jerry Lawler) and has the been the company’s primary announcing voice for for many, many years. Over the last several years, Cole has ascended into a larger behind the scenes role, hiring, mentoring and producing announcing talents.
Prior to his time with WWE, Cole was a CBS Radio journalist, covering Presidential campaigns, the Yugoslavian Civil War, the Oklahoma City Bombing and the fall of David Koresh’s Branch Dividian compound in Waco, Texas, among other major news stories.
Congratulations to Michael Cole!
