7) Mark Henry On Hanging Up On Vince McMahon:
Mark Henry came into the WWE as a highly respected athlete. The former Olympian says that he had many offers to play professional Football before considering wrestling. He tells the story of hanging up on Vince when he called him for the first time. He thought that it was one of his friends messing with him:
“I picked up the phone and he said, ‘I heard you like wrestling. This is Vince McMahon.’ I hung up on him because I thought it was one of my wrestling buddies playing a joke on me. I got another call from Terry Todd and he asked me, ‘Did you hang up on Vince McMahon?’ And I said, ‘That was Vince McMahon for real?’ Vince called me back and we got a laugh out of it”
He continued, talking about their first meeting:
“When I went to Stamford, Vince asked me about my future and what I was thinking about doing after the Olympics. I told him I had a couple of invitations to NFL camps. I was a pretty decent offensive guard and defensive tackle. And he said, ‘Well I want you to think about pro wrestling.’ I was just in shock. I didn’t think it was even possible. I didn’t know how it worked. That’s when we created the first developmental system. It was me and The Rock “He was a great salesman. Anybody that’s met him knows he has a presence. You automatically step back and say, ‘Wow, this dude is somebody.’
8) Justin Roberts On His Intimidating Elevator Ride With Vince
Former WWE Ring Announcer, Justin Roberts, came into the WWE in 2002.
In an interview with Wrestling INC, he spoke about his first time meeting with Vince, inside of an elevator:
“Intimidating. But, he was really cool and nice. Just kind of welcoming. One of the days inside an elevator it was me, John Cena, Shelton Benjamin, Rob Conway and maybe one more, but elevators are pretty awkward to begin with, and us in there with Vince was very awkward. One of them thanked him for the opportunity, but he said, no, thank you guys. You guys are the future. Cena really took that to heart there.”
9) Alexa Bliss Shares The Joke Vince Made To Her When They First Met
Alexa Bliss has quickly climbed the ladder to WWE success. It is clear that Vince McMahon is a fan of her work and thinks that she has a bright future with the company.
During an interview with DirtFork.com, Alexa revealed her funny first interaction with Vince backstage. Here is what she said:
“The first time I met Vince, I had my hair extensions and was painting them pink with hair dye. I’m sitting there in makeup, painting my hair extensions and Vince walks by and I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh. Hi.’ And he was like, ‘Hello’ and looks at my hair and asks me what I’m doing and I said, ‘I’m painting my hair extensions’ and he was really funny about it and said, ‘You think I need pink in my hair?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, that would be awesome,’”
