News broke last week that Tommaso Ciampa is currently dealing with a neck injury. This has been the reason why he hasn’t wrestled on WWE television over the past two few weeks, even after getting called up to the main roster.
We have some major news to pass your way about Ciampa.
This comes via Dave Meltzer on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here).
According to Meltzer, Ciampa is getting neck surgery done this week. The original plans were for him to wait and get the surgery done after Wrestlemania. The issues have apparently progressed to the point that he needs to get them fixed now.
That means Ciampa will be out of action for Wrestlemania. It also means that Ciampa will be missing NXT Takeover: New York. According to recent spoilers, WWE set-up a big angle for Ciampa’s match at Takeover: New York [you can read about that here]. That looks to be scrapped and speculation is that he will likely be forced to vacate the NXT Championship.
It is unclear how long Ciampa will be out after having the surgery done. Neck injuries are tricky and he could be out for 6 months to over a year depending on what happens. This is some horrible news for Ciampa and his fans.
We will let you know if we hear anything more. We wish Ciampa the best though during his recovery.
