Kevin Owens Speaks About Being An Inspiration To Others, His Advice To Young Wrestlers

Kevin Owens is known for playing a great heel on WWE television (and social media). It is easy to forget that there is a real person outside of that persona.

Sometimes in professional wrestling we get caught up in persons character and forget about the human being. Kevin Owens being a bigger guy, proves to the world that your body shouldn’t dictate whether or not you can make it at the highest levels of wrestling. Whether he likes to admit it or not, he is a massive role model for fans who don’t fit the traditional mold of a WWE star. During an episode of the Wrestling Compadres podcast, Owens spoke about people finding inspiration in him and his advice to young wrestlers.

Here is what he said:

“A lot of people see themselves in me I guess because I’m not chiseled out of stone and tanned and 6’5″. I had people tell me that the fact that I’m here [in WWE] gives them hope for their own lives and I’m never going to claim to be an inspiration for anybody because I find that very egotistical, but if I can help people in such a way, just like the one thing I always said when people ask me, like, I don’t know, I’ve had kids ask me like, ‘what’s the best advice for me? I want to be a wrestler one day.’ As corny as it sounds, it sounds like a John Cena t-shirt catchphrase, but I say, ‘just don’t let anybody tell you [that] you can’t do it.’ You know what I mean? I’ve heard that my whole life and it never mattered. And here I am now” (Source: Wrestling Compadres, H/T WrestlingInc).

I am a big Kevin Owens fan and I think since he plays such a great heel character people try to make jokes about his weight. I really think it is awesome that he has been able to succeed without fitting the traditional body type. Just shows you how talented he really is. Even though he doesn’t want to admit it, he is an inspiration to young wrestlers that if you work hard enough, no one can tell you no!
