Kevin Owens was recently a guest on the ‘In This Corner’ podcast. During the interview, Kevin spoke about his relationship with Sami Zayn. Owens and Zayn have been wrestling together or against one another for 15 years now.
During the podcast, Owens had the perfect description for his relationship with Sami: brothers. Here is what he said:
“We have known each other for over 15 years… We have been friends, we have been enemies, we have been at each others throats. We have been by each others side, we have done it all. Every kind of match imaginable, we have been in pretty much, except for maybe the odd Hell in a Cell for example. We have put each other through a lot and we have been there for each other through a lot. I think that just translates into chemistry a lot of times”
Owens says he would describe them as brothers instead of friends:
“I would say that we are more like brothers than we are friends. You know you don’t choose your relatives, you don’t choose who your brother is, you don’t choose who your sister is, you don’t choose your family. You were born into a family. In this case, we weren’t born into each others families but we, from the start of our careers when we started wrestling on the independent scene in the U.S and even back home in Canada. Once we started getting our name out there and more recognized, people just booked us together all the time and that wasn’t our choice”
Promoters would ask for Kevin Steen and the guy with the mask [El Generico] and booked them together. Owens says that it snowballed from there into what it is today. He says that they didn’t choose to be together all the time but the bond that they have has translated into chemistry.
