John Cena Heel Turn, He Addresses Why It Likely Won’t Happen

We recently posted about John Cena preferring the WWE product go away from a PG rating and why he misses blood in wrestling. It was a weird statement from Cena who is LOVED by younger fans who constantly buy his merchandise and hated by older fans who want him to turn heel. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Cena talked about his current character and it felt like he was subtly arguing why he will never turn heel.

Here is what he said when asked about a potential John Cena heel turn.

“Look, your job as a superstar is to manipulate the audience and try to tell your story. I like the dynamic of the audience. Every single night it’s different. But what’s weird is that I’m a good guy because of all the kids and parents who like me, and a bad guy because I won’t turn heel, which actually makes me both good guy and bad guy in one person” (Source: Rolling Stone).

I think what John is saying here is that he doesn’t need to formally turn heel. He is already a heel in the eyes of the the older fans but sells a crazy amount of merchandise to the younger fans who love him. Because of this, his character already has incredible amount of depth and doesn’t need to go the route of a traditional heel turn in this day and age. I think this is also the direction the WWE wants to keep him and Roman Reigns who also has a split crowd reaction. Since fans are making incredible amounts of noise for them (cheers or boos) why would they ever change it up?

For the record, I desperately want to see Cena turn heel and go off on the fans as I think it could be incredible. I just understand why it likely won’t happen.

  1. Well I still remember me booing Cena in a match vs Shawn Michaels on WWE Raw & the parents with children looking at me with anger so no change in WWE been years

  2. Cena shouldnt turn heel. He does too much good in real life, that his character is naturally to be a face. My 5 yr old is a huge Cena fan. . . a heel turn wouldnt be good for him or all the other kids who watch WWE
