Jim Ross On A Roman Reigns Heel Turn

In a recent interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Jim Ross spoke on a wide variety of topics. One of these topics was turning Roman Reigns heel after he became the WWE Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania 32. Ross believes that a heel turn for Reigns is what is needed for his character moving forward.

Jim Ross on a potential Roman Reigns heel turn:

“Reigns was a victim of timing and booking, but WWE really has the table set for a special heel turn. Unless WWE is hell bent on casting him as a hero, Reigns is posed for a big turn… He would make a great heel champion”

Jim Ross on Reigns being in the perfect spot for a heel turn from a booking perspective:

“Unless he’s deaf, Reigns is aware that the fans do not respect him. So there is a very real and organic story to tell with WWE pulling the trigger on a heel turn. If the dots don’t connect on Raw, then that’s the fault of creative in WWE for lacking continuity. But from the perspective of a former booker, they’ve got Reigns in the perfect spot to pull the trigger and turn him into a red hot heel.”

While I do agree with JR that Reigns is in the perfect spot for a heel turn, I think the WWE is going to keep him as kind of a tweener type role like John Cena. I think that was evident by his promo on RAW when he said ‘I’m not a bad guy, I’m not a good guy…. I am THE guy’. I actually think this could work for him without directly turning him. The crowd is already booing him and he already is getting some solid heat. He is facing AJ Styles next and I expect the boos to be in full effect for Reigns. I think Reigns is already basically a heel considering his crowd reactions.

Let me know your thoughts.

  1. I tweeted pretty much the same thing a lil while ago. Hes basically already a heel with his new “idgaf about the crowd” attitude except he doesnt cheat to win, which is a true heel.
