Jim Ross Comments On The Challenges Of Extreme Rules in a “PG” WWE

WWE Extreme Rules 2016.

WWE Extreme Rules 2016 is this Sunday live on the WWE Network! Legendary commentator Jim Ross took to his blog to talk about the challenges of running an Extreme Rules PPV in a WWE that is rated ‘PG’.

JR recommends a small amount of blood use to better sell the EXTREME part of the event:

“Extreme Rules is a challenging PPV for WWE to produce as many of the stipulations and matches have historically been bouts that at times feature ‘blood’ for dramatic affect. In the PG world of WWE, blood is a rarity and while I am not endorsing massive and wide spread use but utilized sporadically in some theatrical manner could be a positive based on this show’s theme” (Source: JRSBARBQ.com).

JR also recommends that talent really need to sell their opponents moves to demonstrate the physical nature of an Extreme Rules show:

“Extreme Rules is a physicality heavy show that should motivate all talents to SELL. I’ve been watching a ton of TV wrestling the past few weeks and it seems that many talents in a variety of promotions, especially those in their 20’s but not exclusive to that age, feel that selling makes the look weak. News flash… selling when done efficiently can do just the opposite. Plus, either no selling or sort sighted selling is fundamentally lame and embarrassing to those who practice arguably the top facet of virtually any pro wresting match” (Source: JRSBARBQ.com).

I think JR makes some great points here. I know that blood is rarely used anymore in the ‘PG’ era but I think for an Extreme Rules PPV you kind of need it. If you are going to have matches featuring different weapons and what not I think it could help. For example adding blood into the main event would really do wonders for the match as being a physical and tough encounter between two rivals (Styles vs Reigns).

Just my opinion though! Let me know your thoughts on JR’s comments below!

  1. I think they should do away with Xtreme Rules. We already have TLC so there in no need. Lets make a bet as to how many wrestlers will end up getting injured in the next 2 months because of this PPV? Im gonna say 3. AJ is already tweaking an injury & a NO DQ match is gonna further it.
