Jim Ross On If He Thinks CM Punk and Shawn Michaels Will Ever Wrestle Again For WWE.

Both CM Punk and Shawn Michaels are retired from professional wrestling for two very different reasons. Michaels has retired and focuses on hunting and different outdoors ventures that he enjoys. He makes occasional appearances on WWE TV (like we saw at WrestleMania 31 and 32). CM Punk on the other hand left the WWE on very bad terms to purse a career in Mixed Martial Arts. Punk blasted the company in a podcast and aired a lot of his grievances. Legendary commentator Jim Ross updated the Q and A section of his website to address questions on if he thinks these two wrestling superstars will ever wrestle again.

Jim Ross says never say never when it comes to CM Punk in a WWE ring again:

“I’d be really surprised if CM Punk had another WWE bout but stranger things have happened in the bridge mending world i.e. Sammartino and Warrior and their years of WWE exile being addressed and solved” (Source: JRsBarBQ).

This one is tough because Punk left on such poor terms. The WWE and Vince McMahon are known to mend fences for the benefit of the company so this one isn’t impossible. If Punk isn’t successful in the world of MMA, I can see him returning possibly for one last match or run, but it will have to be a couple years from now after everything blows over.

JR also thinks that Shawn Michaels will never return to the ring again (as an active wrestler, not just single appearances):

I feel that no matter the storyline, the opponent or the event that HBK is done with in ring pro wresting and has happily moved on to other projects. Like Steve Austin, I’d bet big money that both are done with being active wrestlers”(Source: JRsBarBQ).

This one makes sense. HBK has said publicly that he is happily retired. I think if he was going to wrestle again it would have been at WrestleMania 32 in his home state of Texas. I think he is content with doing other things and making occasional appearances.

Let us know what you think. Could you see either of these guys wrestle ever again? Leave us a comment below and we will get back to you!

  1. at one time, I would have said ‘yes’ to punk. but I legit think he’s just a different type of dude. we all know there are those guys who come back… but that’s usually for monetary reason. however, it is thought that punk was very careful w/ his money and is set w/ his lifestyle. not only that, but punk has his hands in so many different pots right now – comic books, MMA, pro wrestling tees, appearances.. and he could always start a podcast, he could do a million different things if he wanted. I don’t think money is ever going to be an issue for punk.

unless, he just got that itch… punk can say he hates wrestling until the cows comes home. but I don’t buy it. I think he’s a disgruntled guy. but I think deep down there is still that love for it… he just doesn’t love all the BS that comes w/ it.

I think punk could look at the WWE now and how much different it is from when he left. and his return could be sort of like Jordan returning when he sees all the new guys and challenges ahead of him. guys like (his old buddy) samoa joe, finn balor, nakamura, kevin owens, sami zayn, aj styles… and while he fought all the shield members at the end there… he didn’t exactly face them as singles competitors or in their new roles. so guys like seth rollins would be amazing. dean ambrose as the lunatic fringe. and everyone would get a kick out of punk beating the crap out of reigns.

I think a newly formed roster could rejuvenate punks passion and creative juices.

that said… I think it would take more than new opportunities to bring punk back. I think there’s more tension w/ HHH than there is w/ vince. I think there’s more tension w/ the WWE team doctor than w/ creative. nevertheless, there are a lot of things to be ironed out before he could return. that aside, he’s walking around at about 190’lbs. that’s tiny and too small for the bumps he would need to take. he’d need several months to rebuild back up to at least 210/215 to take those bumps. and as a guy who’s tried putting on good, healthy muscle weight… it’s tough for some of us. and looking at punk now, he’s probably at his natural weight (190 lbs) given his frame.

anyways, add all that up … I don’t see it. never mind he still hasn’t even fought yet for the UFC. I don’t see him returning again. I can even see him rejecting a HOF offer down the line. that’s just the kind of guy he is.
