A ton of pro-wrestling events happen during Wrestlemania weekend every year. That includes the WWE main attractions like Wrestlemania, NXT Takeover, and the Hall of Fame ceremony. There are also a ton of non-WWE events that take place in the city during that same weekend.
It appears as if WWE could be looking to block some of these shows for Wrestlemania 36 in Tampa Bay. Mike Johnson of PWInsider Elite had some interesting comments on the topic recently.
Here is a quote (via Ringside News):
“I can tell you from someone I know very well in the Tampa area who’s already well-immersed on some of the things that are going down there for WrestleMania 36 in 2020. The WWE is already on the move to block WrestleCon and independent wrestling events from running major buildings that are state-owned and that are major chains that they’ve got agreements to keep WWE exclusive this weekend.”
My Take: I could see WWE trying to protect themselves from what happened this year with the ROH/ NJPW event taking place in Madison Square Garden. I wouldn’t worry too much about the smaller independent events but I could see them trying to cut out some of the bigger names like ROH and NJPW doing that to them again.
