I wanted to pass along some (relatively) small changes that I would make to weekly episodes of Monday Night RAW. The key word is small, so I am not including things like making RAW 2 hours or Vince McMahon handing the main roster over to Triple H.
7) STOP The ‘Shaky Cam’
One small change that I would make to WWE programming is for them to stop the ‘shaky cam’ during matches and segments. There are some fans that don’t notice it and that is okay. For those of us who do, it can become extremely distracting when trying to enjoy the show.
Here is an example from a few months ago. Just watch the camera guy behind Seth during the chairshots:
This seems to happen during every match or backstage segment. It is annoying and takes away from the show (in my opinion at least).
Overall, I think that the way WWE films matches could improve. I feel like the camera cuts are getting out of control.
6) More Matches That Matter On Weekly Television
Something that I think could help WWE is for them to make matches on weekly episodes of RAW and Smackdown mean more. What I mean by that is WWE needs to do a better job at adding some stakes to some of these matches.
I think they need to do more things like qualifying matches. For example, WWE just announced the participants in the Money in the Bank ladder matches this year. Why not do some qualifying matches to have these competitors earn their spots? WWE has a massive roster and they could easily have some fun matches with some actual stakes involved. Yes, we know that Drew McIntyre is probably going to beat Apollo Crews but at least we get a fun match with some stakes involved.
I also think that more tournaments could be fun. Mix in some more tournaments that take place over a month of WWE television. The winner of the tournament gets the next Universal Title or WWE Title opportunity.
I just feel like if WWE makes weekly matches mean more, fans will get more invested.
