Here is an updated list of the highest rated WWE matches of 2017 (so far). The ratings are from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer (subscribe here). They are rated on a 5 star scale. Note: These matches are not ranked, they are listed in the order that they happened. These also aren’t the be-all end all of match ratings. If a match was rated higher for you, there is nothing wrong with that!

Tyler Bate vs Pete Dunne

WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament Finals (January 15th, 2017)

Meltzer Star Rating: 4.5 Stars Out Of 5

Two relative unknowns (in the eyes of WWE fans) put on a show in the finals of the WWE United Kingdom Championship tournament. Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate made a LOT of new fans after their performances throughout the tournament.

The best match of the tournament took place in the finals. The scumbag heel Dunne vs the beloved Tyler Bate.

Bate was crowned the first-ever WWE United Kingdom Champion after defeating Dunne in a great match. The match showed off the incredible potential of both Dunne and Bate, with both of them being under the age of 24. After the match, it was clear that the future was bright.

Roman Reigns vs Kevin Owens

WWE Royal Rumble 2017 (January 29th, 2017)

Meltzer Star Rating: 4.5 Stars Out Of 5

Kevin Owens defended his WWE Universal Championship against Roman Reigns. Owens’ best-friend Chris Jericho was locked inside of a shark cage in the middle of the ring. It was also a no disqualification match.

This was a pretty entertaining match throughout. There were some great spots, including Owens hitting a ‘stunner’ on Reigns as well as Owens crashing and burning into some chairs that were stacked on the outside of the ring. Overall it was a pretty entertaining match.

Owens was able to retain the title after interference from Braun Strowman, who took out Reigns.
