News broke on Tuesday that Jeff Jarrett would be taking a leave of absence from Global Force Wrestling (GFW) due to some personal reasons. Over the past 24 hours, the story has morphed into Anthem Sports & Entertainment potentially looking to sell the company. Let us try to catch you up.
According to a report from Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, GFW is losing a lot of money and cold be looking to sell. Here is an excerpt:
“GFW is hemorrhaging funds, and sources close to the situation have confirmed that Anthem is ready to withdraw itself from the wrestling industry and sell GFW. Anthem even needed to gut the Fight Network in order to finance GFW”
Barrasso also says that Jarrett still owns the GFW name since the merger (between Anthem and GFW) hasn’t been officially completed. Anthem owns the Impact Wrestling name and tape library associated with it at the moment.
According to the report, WWE would be potential suitors for Anthem’s tape library if they did want to sell. This would include footage of current WWE stars like AJ Styles, Bobby Roode, Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports that there were meetings on Tuesday to discuss the future of the company moving forward.
Dave Meltzer says that sources have denied that Anthem is looking to sell but he says this is the kind of story that they would deny regardless in order to not affect morale.
One thing is clear, things are looking messy right now and we will let you know if we hear anything more.
