Earlier this week, AJ Styles was interviewed on a Houston radio show to promote Survivor Series. During the interview he had some interesting comments where he teased that he only had a few years left of wrestling before wanting to spend more time with his family:
“Work hard now, you enjoy it later- In a couple of years, I’ll be able to catch every football game, every baseball game, every basketball game, cheerleading, gymnastics, whatever they’re in.”
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), AJ’s WWE contract expires in early 2019.
Meltzer says that Styles has told him in the past that he wants to retire at the age of 42. For those wondering, AJ is 40 years old at the moment.
Meltzer also says that it is very rare for wrestlers to walk away while they are in a prime spot in WWE (outside of injury of course). It is possible that WWE could offer him a lighter schedule when his deal expires so he would have more time with his family. This would be similar to the deal that Randy Orton currently has. We won’t know until we get closer to AJ’s deal expiring.
