Curt Hennig Stories From In And Out Of The Ring

4) Stone Cold Steve Austin On Mr. Perfect Helping Him When He Didn’t Have To

‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and Mr. Perfect shared a locker room together for a while when they both were working for WWE in the 90’s.

Austin spoke in an interview with Sports Illustrated, saying that he never saw Mr. Perfect in a bad mood outside of the ring:

“I’m sure he had some s—- days like we all do, but I never saw Curt Hennig in a bad mood. He always had a smile on his face. I respected his work and he was a hell of a guy to be around.”

Austin also shared a story about Hennig helping him when he didn’t have to:

“So anyway he goes to me, ‘Steve, come with me. I want to introduce you to somebody.’ He takes me in the producer’s truck and introduces me to Kevin Dunn. He goes, ‘You need to have a relationship with this guy because he can really help you out.’ And I shook hands with Kevin Dunn, all because Curt Hennig went out of his way to help this new guy–who was another hand, and potentially another threat as far as spots in the ring–and he had no reason to do that other than he wanted to help me.”

Austin has also been very complimentary of Hennig over the years, saying that he is one of the best Intercontinental Champions of all-time.

3) Jim Ross On Mr. Perfect aka ‘Dennis The Menace’

Legendary commentator: Jim Ross shared some of his memories of Mr. Perfect, who he referred to as ‘Dennis the Menace’.

JR spoke about how he will remember Curt Hennig:

“I will remember him as a great athlete and as a talent who never let it get boring in the locker room or on the road. His wit and sense of humor were priceless and eased the burden of many long days those in our business are so often challenged”

On how Mr. Perfect earned the nickname: ‘Dennis the Menace’:

“Chief Jay Strongbow gave Curt the nickname ‘Dennis the Menace’ and it was truly fit for the second-generation star who always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eyes. I know Curt truly loved our business and for those of us that were fortunate enough to know him personally, he will always be remembered for the smiles he put on our faces”

On Hennig inside of the ring:

“Arguably as naturally talented in all phases of the pro wrestling game as anyone I’ve ever been around. We went into the 2007 Hall of Fame class together at WM23 in Detroit. One of the funniest guys ever and a fabulous in ring performer”
