Chris Jericho Shares His Conversation With CM Punk About Main Eventing Wrestlemania

Chris Jericho was recently interviewed by Inside The Ropes. During the interview, Jericho spoke about his match at Wrestlemania 18 with Triple H, where they went on last as the main event.

Below are some of the highlights (quotes below via 411Mania):

Jericho on his match not being able to follow Hulk Hogan vs. The Rock at Wrestlemania 18:

“Let’s be honest. It main evented in that it was on last, but the main event of the show was Hogan and Rock and I knew it. I was actually..most people would be pitching to have their match go on last, I was pitching to have it not go on last. Because I said, ‘how do you follow Hogan/Rock?’ And Triple H, and probably rightfully so, was fighting for the title match to be last, but we couldn’t follow it. We just couldn’t. And you could see the air go out of the room. That’s a match I’ve never watched it back because I remember being kind of disappointed in it, you know? Main event at Wrestlemania.”

On what CM Punk told him about main eventing Wrestlemania:

“I remember talking with CM Punk years later and one of his big reasons why he left wrestling was he was really mad he wasn’t the main event at Wrestlemania, he wasn’t on last. I said, ‘Dude, you worked with the Undertaker at Wrestlemania, that’s the main event. Any match with Taker..’ He said, ‘you can’t say that because you were on last.’ Okay I was on last, but I wasn’t the main event. Just because you’re on last doesn’t make you the main event per se.”

On a related note, Jericho shared who he wants to induct him into the WWE Hall of Fame. You can read his comments here.
