A large topic of criticism for Charlotte so far in her WWE main roster career has been that she is only over because of her father Ric Flair. A lot of people say her character is only Ric Flair’s daughter and him being her manager doesn’t help any argument against that. On Episode 235 of Talk is Jericho, Charlotte spoke about being excited for the day that she gets to turn on her father and not using him as a crutch for her career.
On one day turning on her father and manager Ric Flair and how it is helping her as a performer right now:
“I know when I come out and they see me and they’re like, ‘boo!’ and they see him and they’re like ‘yay!’ That’s hard too because I don’t know if people ever think am I aware of that and I am 100% aware of it, so I’m looking forward to that moment when I get to turn on him, hopefully. But really, that’s how I feel! It’s a lot of pressure on me. I don’t take it as, like, ‘oh, I’m just getting the luxury of, hey, I have Ric Flair with me every night.’ I look at it as something that’s going to make me that much better in the future.”
On working to get better on the mic so she doesn’t need Ric flair with her:
“it’s a little insecurity of mine, but I was thinking, ‘are they putting me with my dad because I’m not that good on the mic?’ So I’m like, ‘dang it, I have to get better.’ Like, I don’t want my dad to take my time. Like, I was seriously thinking that. Like, I’ve got to get better at this and I work on it all the time.”‘
