2) Bret Hart vs ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin
— Wrestlemania 13
Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart took on ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin at Wrestlemania 13 in a match that was fantastic. It was a no-disqualification, submission match between two of the best to ever lace up a pair of boots.Ken Shamrock was the special guest referee.
Both men brawled all over the arena, trying to earn the submission victory. The match was an excellent demonstration of storytelling by WWE. Bret Hart came into the match as a good guy for the past several years but showed signs of darkness in the match. Steve Austin had been a fantastic heel but fans were starting to cheer for him more and more over the last few months.
Who could forget the legendary finish to the match where Hart had Austin locked in his signature: Sharpshooter submission hold. The blood poured down the face of Austin but he refused to tap out. Austin would eventually pass out due to pain and loss of blood, forcing Ken Shamrock to award the match to Hart.
WWE pulled off the perfect double turn. Hart continued to attack Austin after the match, turning heel in the process. Austin would explode into the top babyface and one of the biggest stars that WWE has ever seen. A fantastic match and more than deserving of a top spot on our list.
1) Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker
— Wrestlemania 25
The greatest Wrestlemania match to ever take place (according to us) was Shawn Michaels vs the Undertaker at Wrestlemania 25 in Houston.
On one side of the ring was the Undertaker, who had an undefeated record at Wrestlemania with 16 wins. On the other side of the ring was ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ Shawn Michaels, also known as ‘Mr. Wrestlemania’. Two of the greatest wrestlers and biggest stars in WWE history.
So many great moments. At one point the Undertaker took one of the hardest landings that we have ever seen. He jumped over the ropes to the outside but Michaels pushed the cameraman in the way. Taker hit the floor VERY hard and looked like he might have been knocked out cold. It turned out that he was okay and was able to wrestle for 15 more minutes.
The match also left the crowd (and the Undertaker) in disbelief when Michaels was able to kick out of the tombstone piledriver. Later in the match, Michaels went for a moonsault off the top rope but was caught in mid-air by the Deadman. ‘Taker hit the tombstone for the 1-2-3 and concluded a fantastic match.
On a related note, here is the list of 5-star matches in WWE history.
The match won the 2009 Slammy Award for Match of the Year. It also won Match of the Year honors from Pro Wrestling Illustrated and the Wrestling Observer. It earns the top spot on our list of the best Wrestlemania matches of all time.

1) Steamboat/Savage
2) Hogan/Andre
3) Razor/Michaels
What about the very first Wrestlemania 1 with Mr T and Hogan against R.Pipper and Mr Orndorff? It may not be the best match ever on Wrestlemania but it started the whole thing. I remember Hogan and Mr T a couple of nights before the match at David Letterman. Gosh it really started the wrestlemania…
