The Beginning of Stardom for Dolph Ziggler?

It’s still crazy to think that almost two weeks ago Dolph, Nick Nemeth, Ziggler super kicked AJ Styles in the head, collapsed on top of him and pinned him to become No.1 Contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. His match at Summerslam against the current champ Dean Ambrose was met with a mixed reaction; Surprise and excitement by fans such as myself or surprise and anger by many others.

The argument that was used against Dolph was ‘How on earth could we take the guy who’s been on the pre-show regularly of PPV’s and just lost his latest feud to Baron Corbin’? That argument was an incredibly reasonable one- if you take away his natural talent for the business, Dolph hasn’t been presented as championship material since he won MITB back in 2012 and cashed in on an injured Del Rio in one of the best Raw moments of the PG Era.

However, on the next week’s Smackdown, the show opened with both Champion and Challenger facing each other and my god Dolph Ziggler is back and is as charismatic as he once was. Dean was almost heel-esque in his words; Mentioning the fact that Dolph blames others when he fails in big matches, focusing too much on what others think of him and whether or not he’s going to ‘steal the show’. But when Dolph hit back…he hit back with fire. The intensity and emotion in his voice made the pretty quiet Smackdown Live crowd cheer and applaud him in a way no crowd has done for the past year for Ziggler. Will he win at Summerslam? Probably not, it’s probably Ambrose’s chance to get in a good, clean victory for his first defence out with the Shield but a part of me really, REALLY wants Dolph to win just to see what he can do.

Due to how thin the Blue Brand’s roster is, Dolph could be a huge player over on Tuesday nights and help cement the brand as a powerhouse alongside Raw. The character he showed alongside the set up for his match with Bray Wyatt proves he’s not just here because the fans have been asking for a while- he’s here because he deserves it. Will he walk into Summerslam and burn Brooklyn to the ground? Maybe not but let’s be honest…he’s that. Damn. Good.

  1. I am loving this. When he beat Bray Wyatt clean I was in shock but was happy. No doubt he is naturally talented and really hope he gets a chance to hold the belt again but this time for a longer run.
