Backstage Rumor On The WWE Adding Multiple PPV’s After Brand Split

Rumors over the weekend surfaced about the WWE adding multiple PPV’s after the Brand Split next month. Jerry The King Lawler at a recent appearance reportedly (first reported by ProWrestling.Net) told fans to expect 2 PPV’s per month (except for the big four: Summerslam, WrestleMania, Survivor Series and the Royal Rumble). This would mean RAW and SMACKDOWN would both have their own PPV on the WWE Network for most months. We didn’t report it initially because we had no way to source it.

On Monday morning we got some more information on the topic. Dave Meltzer on the recent Wrestling Observer Radio (Subscription required but recommended), confirmed that the WWE is looking at adding 2 PPV’s per month. This would reportedly begin starting in the month of September (following Summerslam). This is not official and things change in the WWE but it is looking like this will be the case.

What does this mean?

If this turns out to be true this pretty much confirms that the WWE will feature 2 World Titles as it wouldn’t make much sense to run a PPV every month without one.

This also means a LOT more wrestling content each week. Twice a month (on most months) this means: a 3 hour PPV on Sunday nights, 3 hours of RAW on Monday followed by 2 hours of Smackdown on Tuesday. Pair this with an hour NXT each week on Wednesday and that is a LOT of content for wrestling fans.

This is great for the hardcore fan but seems very difficult for the casual viewer to keep up. In a world where attention spans are low, we are asking people to dedicate a lot of their time to keep up.

This has me thinking that if it turns out to be true, we might see the WWE bring RAW back from 3 hours to 2. Hard to brand Smackdown and RAW equal if RAW is getting an extra hour of TV time every week to build storylines.

Let us know what you think about this rumor. Are you in for 2 PPV’s per month? Leave us a comment and let us know!

  1. Thats too much wrestling(for me). I’ll prolly just stick to whatever program has my sons favorite wrestlers and just watch that one.

Im starting to think that Vince is doing to brand split just because its more money in his pockets.
