According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required but recommended), the current plan for the WWE Women’s Championship is for Natalya and Charlotte to square off in a re-match at WWE Payback. This seemed fairly obvious considering Charlotte needed the help of Ric Flair to get the win during their last title match on RAW this past week. It was thought that a re-match could take place next week on RAW but looks like they might wait until WWE Payback for this one. The report states that the feud between Nattie and Charlotte could continue into WWE Extreme Rules as well.
The report states that it was originally going to be Sasha Banks vs Charlotte but the WWE pulled the plug as they want to keep that match for a bigger stage like Summerslam.
IWNerd Perspective – I am glad the WWE is choosing to do this. I think Nattie deserves a chance in the spotlight. It also gives us a couple fresh match ups in the Women’s division with Emma taking on Becky Lynch. This also doesn’t force us right into a Charlotte vs Sasha Banks feud and we can save that for a bigger show like Summerslam. I think Sasha winning the title is going to be a huge moment and they want to save it for a big stage. I was a bit confused why they didn’t give her the belt at WrestleMania but Summerslam is the next best option!
If the feud between Natalya and Charlotte does extend longer, I expect a WWE legend to get involved and help neutralize Ric Flair. Her Uncle Bret Hart has just beaten prostate cancer and his status seems doubtful to be able to get involved. I can see the WWE bringing in he father, Jim ‘the Anvil’ Neidhart for a fun pop.
