Backstage Notes From AEW’s ‘Double Or Nothing’ Event

We have some backstage notes to pass your way from AEW’s ‘Double Or Nothing’ event on Saturday. These come via Mike Johnson of PWInsider.

— AEW’s President Tony Khan personally timed the PPV backstage. Many were impressed by his ability as it was the first time that he had ever done something like that.

— Khan was also very enthusiastic backstage during the show. This included him congratulating everyone after their matches and giving them praise. Johnson says that his enthusiasm really touched a lot people backstage as they realized how invested that he was on a personal level.

— Kevin Sullivan is the one credited for the AEW video packages that aired on the PPV.

— The look of the event was designed to be as sports-oriented as possible and Keith Mitchell headed the production. There were apparently a number of former WCW production employees who were working the show.

— Bob Rosen (formerly of TNA), built the ring specifically for the promotion and also worked as the timekeeper at ringside.

— Only four people in total knew about the Awesome Kong surprise and it had been in the works for about 4 months.

On a related note, check out what Dustin Rhodes had to say about the reaction from some people in WWE about ‘Double Or Nothing’.
