Backstage News On The Original Finish Of Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar

There have been a lot of rumors going around about Brock Lesnar defeating Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 34. There have been rumors of a backstage altercation between Brock and Vince McMahon. There have also been rumors of Brock potentially going off script in the match.

Dave Meltzer provided an update on the originally planned finish of the match on Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here).

Meltzer says that the decision to re-sign Lesnar was made on the RAW before Wrestlemania 34 but the deal wasn’t signed until the day of Wrestlemania.

Meltzer says that Reigns showed up to Wrestlemania thinking that he would be winning the Universal Championship but was told of the change of plans that day. He doesn’t know if Reigns was upset about the decision or not.

Meltzer adds that the finish was a secret to almost everybody backstage. Many were told that the original finish of the match was Roman Reigns getting out of an F5 and spearing Lesnar for the win. When this didn’t happen and Lesnar won, it left many people backstage confused. As noted prior, WWE went to great lengths to keep the finish a secret.

There were some rumors about Brock going off script but this was not the case according to Meltzer. Brock did not “go into business for himself” during the match and that’s how it was supposed to end.

  1. Hi Much Love As a friend and Seriously? That proves my point why Mr. McMahon keeps changing his mind and denying most of what he ever says.
