WWE made the big announcement on Thursday that Eric Bischoff and Paul Heyman have been given major backstage roles with the company. They have been named WWE Executive Directors and they will be in charge of RAW and Smackdown Live moving forward.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider has provided some additional details about their new roles. Johnson first confirmed that these are legitimate roles and not for storyline purposes.
Johnson says that WWE has been pursuing Heyman in a role like this for months now. He was apparently offered a top role on the WWE creative team at the same time as when Bruce Prichard returned to the company. Heyman has gone without an official title for a while now, working creatively with talents like Ronda Rousey, Alexa Bliss, and more.
The deal between WWE and Bischoff came together over the past several weeks. Johnson says that Bischoff will be working directly with FOX as WWE builds their relationship for Smackdown moving over to the Network.[Editors Note: This seems to imply that Heyman will be in charge of RAW and Smackdown will be run by Bischoff]
Johnson says that Heyman and Bischoff will be overseeing all aspects of their individual shows, answering directly to Vince McMahon. They are both on the top of the ‘food chain’ when it comes to running RAW and Smackdown. Also, Heyman will continue his role on WWE television as the advocate for Brock Lesnar. It is unclear if Bischoff will have a role on television moving forward.
