Backstage News On Dio Maddin & Vic Joseph Being Promoted To The RAW Announce Team

News broke this week that the commentary teams on RAW and Smackdown were being overhauled. Dio Maddin, Vic Joseph, and Jerry Lawler were confirmed as the new team for Monday Night RAW. Corey Graves and Michael Cole were confirmed as the new team for Friday Night Smackdown.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), Dave Meltzer provided some additional details about the new RAW team.

According to Meltzer, the reason why Maddin and Joseph got the job is because they were hand-picked by Paul Heyman. Here is what Meltzer wrote:

Maddin had just been added to 205 Live to work with Joseph the last few weeks. Maddin was an out of the box pick by Paul Heyman. Joseph, who has done a good job with 205 Live, was also a Heyman pick to give the show a new look, but it was less out of the box. With Maddin, he had no experience at this but Heyman saw him and thought he could be successful as a new voice in this position.

Meltzer also confirmed a previous report that Jerry Lawler on the team is only a short-term thing. He is expected to be replaced once they find someone else.
