As you likely have heard by now, Lio Rush made a joke after Emma was released by WWE. Rush tweeted: “I guess these are the things that happen when you’re not TRULY ready for @WWEAsuka”. The tweet from Rush was NOT received well (to say the least). The joke was looked at by some as being disrespectful towards someone who had just lost their job.
This included strong responses from Bray Wyatt, Jack Gallagher and more WWE stars. Rush did apologize, but the damage was done. Here are some more details.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), the tweet from Rush got him some major heat backstage. The heat was so major that there was almost immediate talk that Rush could get fired from the company.
It was noted that Rush is going to have to put in a lot of work to get the heat off of him. This was evident from some of the tweets from current WWE stars in response to Rush.
Meltzer says that Rush would have likely been released from WWE if it wasn’t for the apology coming soon after the tweet. This is based on what sources were saying about the situation.
Also, according to a report from PWInsider (via 411Mania), NXT management had a talk with Rush about the controversial tweet. Rush was at the Performance Center in Orlando this week taking classes as per usual.
