Daniel Bryan won the WWE Championship from AJ Styles on this week’s episode of Smackdown Live. Daniel also turned heel, attacking Styles with a low-blow during the match and keeping the attack going afterward. Bryan will now face Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series.
We have some more details to pass your way on the heel turn. This comes via Dave Meltzer on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here).
According to Meltzer, the idea of a heel turn actually came from Daniel Bryan himself. This is something that Bryan wanted to do and something that he was pitching to Vince McMahon over the past few weeks.
Meltzer says that Vince made the decision that he wanted Daniel Bryan vs Brock Lesnar over the weekend. The decision to change the match (and the title) was apparently made prior to the injury happening to Becky Lynch.
The heel turn from Bryan apparently wasn’t decided until hours before Smackdown. The decision was made to shake things up and do the heel turn and title change at the same time.

I’m all for this.
YES! YES! YES! I’m all for this. I wasn’t interested in seeing Brock vs Aj 2 and I like Bryan as a Heel Champ. It’s actually interesting. I’m sure they can have AJ get the title back i the future if need be.
