5 Possible Reasons Why Asuka Dropped The Smackdown Women’s Title

3) Because WWE Wanted To Make The Wrestlemania Main Event Feel Even Bigger

A plausible reason for Asuka dropping the Title is that WWE wanted to make the main event match at Wrestlemania 35 feel even bigger.

This is going to be the first-ever Women’s main event of Wrestlemania and WWE likely wants the match to be as big as possible. They also likely want it to get the most mainstream coverage possible. Now they can promote the match as featuring the two top Women’s Champions in WWE, plus the Royal Rumble winner. From the standpoint of the casual fan who only tunes in for Wrestlemania, this makes the match seem like a bigger deal since there are two Titleholders involved.

I could see the rationale being that Vince McMahon wanted to make the main event match as big as possible. As a result, he took the Title off Asuka to raise the stakes.

2) Because WWE Could Be Planning On Unifying The Women’s Titles

Something that I have seen floating around since Asuka dropped the Title is that WWE is planning to unify the Women’s Titles. They haven’t specifically stated yet but they could end up making the main event of Wrestlemania for both the RAW and Smackdown Women’s Championships. This would add even more stakes to the match.

If this happens, we would go back to having one (main) Women’s Champion that floats between brands. Mix that in with the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships and they would have two Women’s Titles that could alternate between RAW and Smackdown moving forward.

This has been a popular theory floating around, even though WWE hasn’t specified that Charlotte’s Smackdown Women’s Title will be on the line at Wrestlemania.

Personally, I don’t think that this will be the case. With the Women’s Revolution going on right now I feel like it would be a bad decision to cut one of the Championships and could lead to some backlash. Still, it remains an option after what happened.
