5 Possible Reasons Why Asuka Dropped The Smackdown Women’s Title

The WWE Universe was shocked after Asuka dropped the Smackdown Women’s Championship to Charlotte Flair. We have put together some possible reasons why this happened.

5) Because Asuka Could Be Moving To RAW After Wrestlemania 35

A possible explanation for Asuka dropping the Title is that they are planning to move her over to RAW in the Superstar Shake-Up.

This would actually make some sense. There is a great feud waiting for her with Becky Lynch for the RAW Women’s Championship. Asuka choked Becky out a few months ago at the Royal Rumble. This would be an easy feud to write after Wrestlemania. I think that many fans would be happy with some more matches between Asuka and Becky.

In this scenario, WWE likely wants to put Asuka and Charlotte on separate brands as we have seen them face off a bunch over the past year. They made the decision to keep Charlotte on Smackdown, so they needed to take the belt off of Asuka.

It isn’t a great reason but it could make some sense.

4) Because WWE Didn’t Have A Match That They Liked For The Smackdown Women’s Championship At Wrestlemania

WWE might have pulled the trigger on taking the Title off Asuka here because they simply didn’t like any of the matches for her at Wrestlemania 35.

This one would make some sense. A few weeks ago, I listed Asuka as one of the Champions who were at risk of being left off the Wrestlemania card. WWE moved Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch over to RAW, leaving Asuka with limited options for her Wrestlemania match.

Instead of going with Asuka vs Mandy Rose vs Sonya Deville (which was the rumor heading into Smackdown), WWE might have just scrapped the match completely. If this is the case, it is WWE’s fault. They needed to do a better job of building up a Women’s talent on Smackdown to face Asuka at the event. They also needed to do a much better job of building Asuka up as she was off TV for a good chunk of the past two months. It seems plausible that Vince McMahon hated all of the options for Asuka at Wrestlemania, so went this route instead.

Plus, with all of the talk from fans about how Wrestlemania is going to be a really long show, maybe WWE just decided to remove a match from the card?
