7) Disappointing Match Of The Year Award
— Our Winner: Shayna Baszler vs Becky Lynch vs Bayley (Survivor Series)
My hopes were really high for the triple threat match at Survivor Series between Bayley, Becky Lynch, and Shayna Baszler. I thought that WWE did a great job at building the storyline and it was a match that I was really looking forward to.
The match ended up as a big disappointment. WWE put it in the main event slot and it just didn’t end up being very good. It wasn’t a terrible match but something just didn’t click. There was a lack of chemistry and the crowd seemed to be out of it.
I think that WWE made a mistake putting this match as the main event of the PPV. The crowd was dead by this point and it really ended up hurting it. I also think that WWE got the hopes up of fans that Ronda Rousey would be returning since they put the match in the main event spot. Many people were expecting some sort of surprise that never happened. For a match that I was super excited for, it ended up being a major disappointment.
6) WTF Moment Of The Year Award
— Our Winner: The Hell in a Cell match between Bray Wyatt and Seth Rollins ends in a referee stoppage (WWE Hell in a Cell)
Bray Wyatt and Seth Rollins faced off at the Hell in a Cell PPV this year for the Universal Championship. Their Hell in a Cell match ended in a referee stoppage, which caused a lot of fans to scratch their heads.
How can a Hell in a Cell match end in a referee stoppage? The point of the match is for two Superstars to settle their feud with maximum violence and without any interference. Instead, we got a non-finish in one of the most brutal match types in all of WWE. After it was over, fans in attendance and online crapped all over WWE’s decision.
This was a dumb booking decision by WWE. I still can’t believe that they thought it was a good idea. It wins my award for the WTF moment of the year.
5) The Worst NXT Call-Up Of The Year Award
— Our Winner: EC3
Every year, there seems to be a Superstar who gets called up from NXT that doesn’t translate very well to the WWE main roster. This year’s award for the worst NXT call-up goes to EC3.
This was not EC3’s fault as they didn’t give him much of a chance. He is best known for his promo ability and they turned him into a mute character for the first several weeks of his main roster career. This was a strange decision that I am still confused by. He has appeared in the background of a few segments but hasn’t done much other than that.
I didn’t think that EC3 was going to be in the World Title picture when he was called up. Still, I didn’t think that he was going to get buried as badly as he did. He wins my award for the worst NXT call-up of the year by a landslide.
