Recently, Ryback spoke about his original plans for Wrestlemania 32. He said that Vince McMahon told him that he would be ‘squashing’ AJ Styles, who was only a couple of months into his WWE career. This didn’t happen as AJ Styles took on Chris Jericho at the event, while Ryback faced Kalisto on the kickoff show.
AJ Styles was asked about Ryback’s claim in a recent interview with Sports Illustrated. AJ took the comments in stride and believes that he has changed Vince’s mind with his performances in the ring:
“I think what Ryback said may have been true at that time. I don’t know that Vince knew exactly what he had in AJ Styles, and I think his opinion of me changed somewhat quickly. That’s OK, I’ve been doing that my whole life—changing people’s opinion of me and what I’m capable of.

If he is mad at Vince McMahon or Ryback:
“I’m not mad at Ryback. If it was said, it was said, and I’m not mad at Vince McMahon. Opinions vary, and they change” (Source: Sports Illustrated).
Vince obviously thinks highly of AJ Styles as he is currently the WWE World Champion. He also has beaten John Cena twice since arriving, a feat that doesn’t happen often. I don’t doubt that Vince was critical of Styles when he first arrived into the company but he would have to be insane not to see the guys talent.
Lets all be thankful that a squash didn’t happen and AJ is where he is today. Speaking of AJ Styles, he recently teased a match against Shawn Michaels.
