Rumor Roundup: Scrapped Match Plans For Vince McMahon, Update On Keith Lee’s Status, More

Here are some of the latest WWE rumors that are floating around.

5) Scrapped Plans For James Ellsworth At Summerslam

James Ellsworth was recently interviewed by Chris Van Vliet. During this, Ellsworth revealed that there were some plans for him to wrestle at Summerslam in 2016.

Here is what he said (h/t to Wrestling INC for the quote below):

“They were doing this thing where Heath Slater didn’t get drafted by RAW or SmackDown. So, the major idea that never happened was, originally, I was going to wrestle Heath Slater at SummerSlam and the winner gets a SmackDown contract. I was going to win! That was the original idea to bring me in. Then, Heath started getting over as a babyface doing that,”

“So, they’re like, ‘Ah, you’re both babyfaces. We can’t do that.’ I got bummed out because I only had the Braun Strowman match.”

My Take:

  • Heath vs Ellsworth would have been pretty funny. I definitely remember enjoying the storyline of Heath Slater as a free agent and this could have been another fun dimension.

4) Update On Keith Lee’s Status

One of the big stories this week was the news of WWE sending some of their bigger guys back to the Performance Center for some additional seasoning. The most surprising name involved in this was Keith Lee.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Vince McMahon thinks that Lee is “not ready” for the main event spot on RAW yet.

The additional training for Lee and the other guys isn’t supposed to be viewed as a demotion. They are trying to prepare them for a bigger role down the road.

My Take:

  • I am a big fan of Keith Lee and I hope that he does get a chance in that main event spot one day. I think that he has the potential to be a solid WWE Champion.
