Here are some of the latest WWE rumors that are floating around.
5) The Final Straw That Led To Vince McMahon Banning Third-Party Apps
A big topic that came out this week was Vince McMahon banning WWE stars from using third-party platforms (while using their WWE names). This includes things like Tik Tok, Twitch, and more.
According to Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Forums, the “straw that broke the camels back” was Lana’s recent promotion of BANG energy drink.
The straw that broke the camel’s back was CJ Perry’s Bang Energy drink commercials.
These commercials feature Lana in a Bikini, with the energy drink in the background.
My Take:
- I get it from the sense of if WWE has an energy drink client (as an advertiser), they would likely be pissed off to see Lana promoting another brand with her ‘Lana’ name. While saying that, WWE stars are technically considered independent contractors, so it becomes extremely messy. I will wait for more information before forming my opinion.
4) Backstage Reaction To WWE Banning Third-Party Apps
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, most wrestlers he spoke to were unhappy with WWE’s decision to ban these third-party apps. Here is what he wrote:
Most WWE wrestlers I’ve spoken to are not happy in what they consider an over-reach by WWE. Not everyone was upset, though. Some understood it.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider noted that there has been some discussion among talent about pushing back against WWE on this topic:
Over the last 24 hours, there has been a lot of talk among talents about pushing back against WWE’s edict if they are indeed being required to shut down their personal streaming channels, but whether that actually happens or not remains to be seen. As of now, talents don’t have clear clarification of what is and is not allowed going forward, and until they do, their concerns won’t be alleviated, especially when they are being told that they cannot use their own likeness, in essence, their own face, for outside projects.
My Take:
- It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few weeks. This could be something that really hurts morale in WWE.
