News broke this week that Renee Young is leaving WWE. After the news broke, many fans assumed that Renee would be jumping to AEW to join her husband, Jon Moxley.
Dave Meltzer has provided an update on Renee’s future in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Meltzer says that AEW only found out about the news of her leaving WWE when it became public. Here is what he wrote:
From an AEW standpoint, even though Jonathan Good (Jon Moxley), her husband, is AEW champion, we were told AEW was unaware she was leaving WWE until after the news broke. This is not to say that is or isn’t an option and what her legal limitations and time frames would be.
Based on the comments above, we shouldn’t expect Renee in AEW anytime soon. While saying that, Meltzer says that it is “inevitable” that Renee ends up working for the promotion at some point down the road:
One person close to the situation said it’s inevitable she hosts something or does something for AEW but there is not deal at the present time for anything. Everyone in the company knows her. But it probably won’t be soon since her WWE announcing deal does have a serious non compete clause.
My Take:
- I would love to see Renee get a big-time gig outside of the wrestling bubble. She is super talented and I think she could really excel in a job with FOX Sports or ESPN. I agree that we will probably see her with AEW at some point but my prediction is that it won’t be her full-time gig.
