It was a fun night at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto for WWE Roadblock. My girlfriend and I’s seats were supposed to be located far behind the announce table but the WWE ended up upgrading our seats. We got really lucky and were placed halfway down the ramp right on the barricade. If you are attending an event, I recommend trying to get seats like this as you not only get chances for interactions with the wrestlers but if someone in front of you has a sign, you are still able to see the ring clearly.
The first match was Mark Henry vs a wrestler named Randy Sharpe (WWE changed it from Randy Reigns). Turns out Sharpe was a student of Santino Marella in his academy based in Toronto. Mark Henry got the win in quick fashion.
The next match was Goldust vs Viktor of the Ascension. Fans seemed to really enjoy Goldust and were constantly chanting ‘Golden Truth’ at him. Konnor of the Ascension came in at the end of the match and the Ascension beat down Goldust. R-Truth came in for the save. Goldust and R-Truth celebrated with the crowd before leaving.
The main card began with the New Day vs Sheamus and Barrett. The New Day got a very loud response and fans were loving the ‘Booty O’ cereal. Fun match with the New Day retaining the titles. It was awesome to hear Xavier Woods play the trombone to manipulate the crowd into chanting ‘New Day Rocks’ something that I didn’t really notice when watching on tv.
Jericho came out next to a great ovation from the Canadian fans. He gained some solid heel heat by insulting Canada and saying he was ashamed to be from the country. I enjoyed what he did but they sent out Jack Swagger, the American Patriot as the babyface for us to cheer and it just didn’t work. I thought we would see Sami Zayn here for a massive pop but it makes sense why we didn’t. They wanted both guys to get wins on TV heading into WrestleMania and them facing each other wouldn’t allow that. I still think they could have done WAY better than Jack Swagger for this spot, fans would have cheered anyone else. Jericho on the way out ripped this guys sign who was yelling boring all night behind us, and he didn’t speak much for the rest of the night.
Next up was the NXT tag titles match, Enzo and Big Cass vs the Revival. The Enzo and Cass pop was great and it was really fun chanting with them in person. I think they are going to be big hits on the main roster when they transition full time. Fans seemed to enjoy this match and had some decent chants towards Dash and Dawson…. “Which one are you????” or ‘Which ones Dash, which ones Dawson?” were fun to chant along with. Big Cass is MASSIVE up close which should be no surprise and the spot where he sent Enzo over the top ropes onto the Revival received a great pop. Fun match for sure.
Natalya vs Charlotte was up next. Nattie received possibly the biggest pop of the night when she came in. She was rocking a Bret Hart and Owen Hart shirt and made sure to point to an Owen Hart Sign right near me which was really cool. The match was really fun and arguably the match of the night. Once Nattie had Charlotte finally locked into the Sharpshooter the crowd ERUPTED for her. Really happy for Nattie as she proved last night that she can compete with the top divas, she just needs to be given a chance.
