WWE Reportedly Adding Another PPV To Their Schedule

Over the past month, there have been rumors about WWE adding another Network special right after Summerslam. The rumor floating around was that this could be another Evolution event or something else. It looks like we finally have our answer.

According to a report from @Wrestlevotes, WWE will be adding another PPV event to their schedule. This PPV event will be ‘Payback’ and will be taking place only one week after Summerslam. Here is what the account Tweeted:

For whatever reason, WWE has added an additional PPV to the schedule, ONE week after SummerSlam.

Payback will take place August 30th.

UPDATE: Mike Johnson of PWInsider has confirmed that Payback will be happening one week after Summerslam:

PWInsider.com can confirm rumors making the rounds today that Summerslam won’t be the only WWE PPV next month. WWE’s internal calendar was updated to reflect that the company will broadcast WWE Payback on Sunday 8/30. WWE utilized the Payback PPV title from 2013 through 2017, so they are reviving the name. That PPV is slated to emanate from the WWE Performance Center.

It is unusual, but not unheard of for WWE to run two PPVs in close proximity to each other. In 1991, WWF held the Survivor Series, with The Undertaker beating Hulk Hogan for the WWF Championship. In an experiment at the time, they then ran a second PPV, This Tuesday in Texas, headlined by a rematch with Hogan regaining the title. One would assume the plan is to do a major angle at Summerslam to play into returning with a PPV just seven days later
