The RAW Women’s Championship match at Extreme Rules ended in controversy. This came after Bayley put on the referees jersey and helped Sasha Banks win the belt from Asuka.
On their website, WWE has now provided a storyline update on the controversial finish of the match.
WWE’s website is referring to Sasha’s victory as unofficial. This hints that Asuka did not actually lose her RAW Women’s Championship. Here is an excerpt from the site:
With the referee incapacitated, Bayley struck Asuka with one of the Women’s Tag Team Titles and put on the referee’s shirt to count a pinfall for Banks, unofficially hailing her partner as the victor and fleeing with the Raw Women’s Championship.
UPDATE: Mike Johnson of PWInsider is reporting that the plan for RAW tonight is for Sasha not to be recognized as the new Champion:
WWE will also follow up on the Raw Women’s Championship situation coming out of Extreme Rules. As of several hours ago, the direction was that Sasha Banks would not be recognized as the new champion but that she had possession of the title belt.
For those wondering, Asuka is still listed as the RAW Women’s Champion on WWE’s website.
