Update On WWE’s Plans For Summerslam

There have been rumors for the past few weeks about what WWE is planning for Summerslam. The rumor mill suggested that Vince McMahon was hoping to hold Summerslam in front of a small audience (of real fans).

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, WWE has finally made a decision on Summerslam.

The event will no longer be happening in Boston and will now be taking place at the WWE Performance Center. Here is what Johnson wrote:

While an official announcement has not yet been made, World Wrestling Entertainment will hold the 2020 Summerslam PPV from the Performance Center on Sunday 8/23.

WWE was slated to hold four events – Friday Night Smackdown, NXT Takeover: Boston, Summerslam 2020 and Monday Night Raw from Friday 8/21 through Monday 8/24 at Boston’s TDGarden Arena originally, but the COVID-19 pandemic will prevent those plans.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh announced in May that the city would not allow any large gatherings in the city through the end of the summer.
