Here are some of the latest WWE rumors that are floating around.
5) Backstage Joke About Paul Heyman
According to a report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, there was a backstage joke about how Paul Heyman was trying to build his RAW roster. This was prior to him being fired as the guy in charge of the red brand.
People backstage would jokingly call Heyman’s roster the “catering crew”, instead of the “Smackdown Six”. This is because Heyman was trying to push several Superstars who were hardly used on television when they were previously on Smackdown. Here is what Sapp wrote:
Heyman was said to have specifically wanted to build the Raw brand around future stars. There was a lighthearted joke backstage that Raw was built around the “catering crew” instead of the “Smackdown Six” this time, because AOP, Zelina, Andrade, Humberto Carrillo, Aleister Black, Andrade and Buddy Murphy were all relegated to Smackdown catering areas the year before and were hardly used on WWE TV. Specifically, we’re told Heyman pushed to get Buddy Murphy on Raw, and was willing to pass on star power to get him. Apollo Crews was later added to that list.
My Take:
- I appreciate that Heyman was trying to build new stars. That is a refreshing change from what we are used to as WWE fans.
4) The Backstage Perception Of King Corbin
According to Ringside News, King Corbin has generated a lot of respect backstage. Corbin is respected as a legitimate tough guy who can handle himself like Matt Riddle (who was a UFC fighter).
Corbin is also respected backstage for being someone who is willing to put others over:
Ringside News has learned that there is a lot of respect backstage for Baron Corbin. The 2019 King Of The Ring was described to us with the phrase “as legit as [Matt] Riddle” when it comes to being able to handle himself.
Furthermore, Corbin has received high marks backstage because “he gets it.” It was described to us that “he’s all business, doesn’t mind playing the fool, has no problem putting anyone over, and just wants to do good business.”
My Take:
- Corbin seems like a guy who will have a job in WWE for life. He seems to be very well-liked by management and has already been put in some big spots in his career.
