Rumor Roundup: More Terms That WWE Is Banning, WWE Holding Off On Retirement Match, More

Here are some of the latest WWE rumors that are floating around. Make sure to take with a grain of salt as always.

5) WWE Holding Off On Retirement Match

According to journalist Tom Colohue, WWE was originally planning Rey Mysterio’s retirement match for Wrestlemania 36. The rumor was that it would be a Mask vs Title match between Mysterio and Andrade.

Due to current circumstances, it appears as if WWE will be holding off on that retirement match:

The idea was that we were going to get Andrade vs. Rey Mysterio, Mask vs. Title, and an early rumor which I’ve mentioned here is that Rey Mysterio would lose, and that would be that. That, at this point, with WrestleMania as it is, I don’t see that happening now, because it’s not really a fitting send-off now, is it?

My Take:

  • I definitely agree with this. If Rey is going to be retiring, it needs to be in front of fans. I would wait until like Summerslam if they can.

4) Total Number Of Matches At Wrestlemania 36

According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Wrestlemania 36 is expected to have around 16 matches. This would mean 8 matches on Saturday and 8 matches on Sunday.

At first, WWE was expected to do fewer matches. Now, with the show splitting up into two days, the expectation is that it will be around 16.

My Take:

  • In my predictions for Wrestlemania 36, I have WWE doing 14 matches, with 7 on each night. I would be fine with 8 though. I am just happy that we won’t have to sit through one night that is over 7 hours long, which has happened in the past few years.
