Shane McMahon hasn’t been seen on WWE television since he was ‘fired’ from Smackdown after losing to Kevin Owens in their ladder match. This happened on the 20th Anniversary special for Smackdown back in October.
When Shane returned to WWE in 2016, Stephanie McMahon made it clear that Shane had been brought back as strictly an on-screen talent. Shane appears to now have a new role within the company.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), Shane helped put together the men’s Royal Rumble match on Sunday night. Here is what Meltzer wrote:
The men’s Rumble was put together by Shane McMahon, James Gibson (Noble) , Chris Park (Abyss) and Lance Evers (Storm) with input by Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar regarding the early part of the match. Vince McMahon was heavily involved in the finishing sequence and not only made the final call on McIntyre winning, but also the sequence and his eliminating Reigns last.
This implies that Shane is now working in an agent-type role with WWE, which wasn’t happening before.
