New Rumor On WWE’s ‘Wild Card Rule’

WWE is still using the ‘Wild Card Rule’ on both Monday Night RAW and Smackdown Live. In fact, this week’s episode of RAW kicked off with a match between Roman Reigns and Dolph Ziggler, both of whom are Smackdown Superstars.

We have a rumor to pass your way about the ‘Wild Card Rule’.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here), the ‘Wild Card Rule’ should be ending after the first Smackdown episode on FOX. Here is what he said (h/t to Ringside News for the quote below):

“I was told hard split after the first week [of October] because the first SmackDown show everyone will be on and then after that its supposed to be a hard split. Look, everything changes based on Vince’s whims.”

My Take: This does make sense. Stack the October 4th episode of Smackdown in order to help with the ratings. After that show, it makes sense to keep things separate. Let’s hope that happens and WWE goes back to a hard brand split.
