Sami Zayn got fans talking on RAW this week when he name-dropped ‘AEW’. Over the past few days, there have been plenty of rumors about his comment and if it was scripted.
Dave Meltzer provided an update on what happened backstage in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here).
Here is what he wrote about Sami’s comment:
“The idea was apparently that it makes Raw edgy because somebody said something they wouldn’t be allowed to say. To get it over more, on the YouTube replay of the segment they edited it out. The key is that there is a 15 second delay before something hits television and that is enough time to edit it out. In addition, it was left in the Hulu replay, which is a heavily post-edited version of the show. Plus, two company sources confirmed the line was scripted. That said, within the company, many if not most were told otherwise and when Zayn gave the line, Vince McMahon did act like he was freaking out. But it wasn’t edited off the show. Since the buck stops with him, either it was a miscommunication (which is what we were told) or an attempt to work everyone (a dangerous situation that leads to mistrust and copies the silliness that was WCW at the end)“
We will let you know if we hear anything more on the topic.
