The Referee Of The Wrestlemania 35 Main Event Has Reportedly Been Fined By WWE

Becky Lynch won the RAW and Smackdown Women’s Championships at Wrestlemania 35. This came after she pinned Ronda Rousey. After it was over, rumors started to float around that the finish of the match didn’t go down as planned. This was because Ronda’s shoulders weren’t on the mat for the referee’s entire three count.

We have some news to pass your way about the finish of the match. This comes via Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.

According to Sapp, there was initially some heat on referee Rod Zapata after the match but it seemed to blow over.

Zapata was reportedly pulled aside by Vince McMahon at RAW this week and was fined for messing up his count. Here is a quote from Sapp about what happened:

“The pinfall was supposed to happen off the crucifix, but McMahon told Zapata that he should have waited until the shoulders were down to count the three, and if any of the performers in the ring ended up struggling to regain their footing, that would be on them”

It was also noted that referee Dan Engler was fined for what happened during the Chad Gable & Bobby Roode vs. Ricochet & Aleister Black match from Raw. It is unclear what Engler did wrong but it was described as something small. Vince McMahon reportedly wanted to set an example.
