John Cena made a surprise appearance at Wrestlemania 35 under his old gimmick, the ‘Doctor Of Thuganomics’. Cena had a fun moment with Elias, where he cut a promo and ended up hitting him with the ‘FU’.
So why did Cena return as the ‘Doctor Of Thuganomics’?
Cena explained himself in an interview backstage with Cathy Kelley after the segment.
According to Cena, he wasn’t finished shooting his latest movie until Thursday. As a result, he didn’t want to have a match at Wrestlemania, since he wasn’t going to be around for the build (on weekly episodes of TV). This idea was pitched to him and he accepted immediately. He says that he didn’t want to take a ton of time away from any of the other Superstars on the card but still wanted to entertain the fans. You can watch the video here:
