WWE has confirmed Adam Cole vs Johnny Gargano for the vacant NXT Championship. This will be a 2-out-of-3 falls match and will be taking place at Takeover: New York.

According to Wrestling INC, there are some upcoming NXT live events that are advertising Champion vs. Champion matches. These advertisements have Adam Cole as the NXT Champion and Velveteen Dream as the NXT North American Champion.
This is definitely weird considering that Cole has never held the NXT Championship before and it isn’t a case where it is an old advertisement that hasn’t been changed.
My Take: This would make sense to me as it looks like Johnny Gargano is moving up to the main roster anyways. It wouldn’t feel right for him to win the NXT Championship from anyone else but Tommaso Ciampa. I am thinking that Cole will be winning the Title here like the advertisement suggests.
