Now that Samoa Joe is the United States Champion, fans have began to think of ideas for his potential match at Wrestlemania 35.
One of the rumors floating around for the past week was a potential match between Joe and John Cena. This is due to Cena’s name being mentioned in the United States Title feud over the past few weeks. Cena and Joe started their careers together in Ultimate Pro Wrestling (UPW) and it is a match that a lot of fans want to see.
We have an update for you on these rumors.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here), he has been told that WWE isn’t planning Joe vs Cena at the event.
Despite the rumors and speculation, it doesn’t look like WWE will be going in that direction.
My Take: I am actually okay with this. You have to look at how much talent is currently on Smackdown and how many of them would be off the Wrestlemania card if WWE did Joe vs Cena. Guys like Rey Mysterio, Andrade, Mustafa Ali, and R-Truth could all be involved in a multi-person match with Joe at the event instead to get them on the card. In my Wrestlemania 35 predictions, I have Joe defending against all of those guys in a ladder match. Maybe Cena also gets involved in that match? That way, they could save Joe vs Cena for down the road at another event.
Don’t get me wrong, I would still love Cena vs Joe. I just think that there is a lot of talent on the Smackdown side of things that would be hung out to dry.
