Daniel Bryan shocked the wrestling world on Tuesday night when he won the WWE Championship from AJ Styles. Not only that, but he also turned heel in the process, attacking Styles after their match.
We have a rumor to pass your way about the original plans for Daniel Bryan’s match at Wrestlemania 35.
According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), the original plans were for Daniel Bryan to face Shane McMahon at Wrestlemania 35.
Prior to Daniel Bryan winning the WWE Championship, there were some seeds planted for a future match between the two. This included Daniel slamming Shane to the mat during the melee between Bryan, Shane, Samoa Joe, and the Miz.
It looked like Shane’s recent heel turn and WWE World Cup win was building towards an eventual Wrestlemania 35 match against Bryan (who would have been the babyface).
It appears as if this angle and match have dropped though as WWE has now decided to turn Daniel Bryan heel. According to a recent report, the heel turn wasn’t decided until the day of Smackdown this week. There was also no sign of any Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon tension on Smackdown.
