WWE always seems to bring in some of the top talents from around the world. It looks like in their recent quest for talent, WWE had interest in some wrestlers from New Japan Pro Wrestling [NJPW].
According to a report from Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), WWE sent “feelers” to three top Japanese stars.
We know who one of them is for sure. Tetsuya Naito said in a recent interview that he shot down an offer from WWE back in June. Meltzer doesn’t directly name the other two but provides some hints on who they could be. Here is what he wrote:
“Naito would be one of the three (at least) Japanese top guys feelers have been sent to.
The other two that we’re aware of didn’t turn the offers down without thought although one would be a huge surprise and the other would be a great worker who I didn’t see flourishing in the WWE system, but also probably wouldn’t have any reservations about moving to the U.S. like many of the Japanese might.”
Fans of NJPW can breathe easy as they all turned down the offers. It will be interesting to see if any NJPW stars do make the jump over to WWE over the next several months. Especially with WWE having some extra cash from their new television deals.
