We are officially down to two! The 2018 Mae Young Classic tournament comes down to Io Shirai and Toni Storm. The finals will take place at the WWE Evolution PPV event on Sunday night.
So who is going to walk out as the second Mae Young Classic winner? Let’s speculate a little bit here.
Let’s start with match quality
I wanted to begin by saying that this should be a really, really good match. Both Io and Toni are incredible talents and two of the best female stars that WWE has under contract (in my opinion). From a match quality standpoint, I would not be surprised if this one ends up stealing the show on Sunday night. Both of them are that good.
So who is going to win?
I know that Io Shirai is the favorite but I have a gut feeling that Toni Storm is going to walk out as the winner. With WWE recently launching the NXT UK brand, they are going to need to build up the brand. I think that Triple H is going to build the NXT UK Women’s division around Storm (and Rhea Ripley). As a result, I think Triple H will push to have Storm win the Mae Young Classic to build some extra buzz around the brand moving forward.
Io Shirai is going to be just fine in the loss. I see her as a regular on NXT television moving forward. I could see Triple H building towards a Kairi Sane vs Io Shirai match for NXT Takeover on Wrestlemania 35 weekend.
